Linda-Rose Hembreiker’s artistry captivates audiences while inspiring composers to expand the repertoire of the harp. She is an active soloist and chamber artist in Southern California. Ms. Hembreiker is especially interested in contemporary music and has premiered several works for harp, including Yo Goto’s the Talking Trees Tell Great Secrets, Chapman Welch’s Four Pieces for Solo Harp, and James Worlton’s The Etiquette of Ice.

 

Ms. Hembreiker’s exploration of Alexander Technique and the harp has resulted in presentations for the American Harp Society-Los Angeles Chapter and the American Harp Society National Conference, as well as a workshop at the University of Redlands Summer Harp Camp 2009. Her article “Incorporating Alexander Technique in to the Daily Practice Session,” appeared in the Summer 2010 American Harp Journal and will be followed by a companion article, “Teaching with the Alexander Technique in Mind.” Ms. Hembreiker is currently the 2nd vice-president of the American Harp Society-Los Angeles Chapter.

 

Deeply committed to education, Ms. Hembreiker created and directs harp programs at St. Irenaeus and St. Hedwig schools in the Diocese of Orange. These programs include Before-School Harp and the Primary Grade Harp Class. Students in these programs appear frequently in the community, including a performance at the National Catholic Educational Association Conference 2009 in Anaheim, California. Ms. Hembreiker recently gave a presentation on building and maintaining successful school harp programs at the American String Teachers Association Conference in Santa Clara, California.

 

She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in harp performance from the University of Southern California, and Master’s of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in harp performance from the University of North Texas. Her formative teachers have been Ellie Choate, JoAnn Turovsky, and Ellen Ritscher.

 

Ms. Hembreiker can be heard on the Klavier Wind Project recordings: Retrospectives, Passions, Poetics, Allegories, and the GIA recordings: Transformations, Donald Grantham, Joseph Schwantner with the North Texas Wind Symphony, and on the C. F. Peters recordings Music of the Americas and Reflections with the American Wind Symphony and the AWSO’s harp.
